Associates Walk to Fight Cancer

Consistent with M&R’s long tradition of supporting charitable causes, associates representing four M&R hotels joined the corporate People & Culture team and family members to participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in New York City’s Central Park.

It was the 30th consecutive year for the annual four-mile walk, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Sponsors estimated the October event attracted some 50,000 people.

The four participating M&R hotels were the DoubleTree by Hilton New York Times Square West, the TownePlace Suites New York Manhattan/Times Square, the Holiday Inn New York City – Times Square and the Fairfield New York Manhattan/Central Park.

The event seeks to raise awareness of breast cancer and raise funds to help find a cure. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women, following skin cancer. Many members of the M&R contingent wore pink clothing, which signals the fight against breast cancer.

M&R has supported the American Red Cross, the Food Bank of New York and Clean the World, which recycles hotel soap and other amenities for distribution in the third world.

“Given that we’re in the hospitality business, it makes sense that we help support these organizations at a time the need is so great,” said Cleo Clarke, vice president of people & culture.
