As we close the book on 2022 and look to the New Year, we want to take this opportunity to thank you for your hard work and dedication this past year in providing our guests with best-in-class service, whether your job involves direct guest contact or is behind the scenes.
Continuing our series of team member profiles, this issue features Erik Melendez, an engineer at the Fairfield Inn & Suites New York Manhattan/Central Park, who is an accomplished photographer.
Originally, an all-suite hotel featured guest rooms with a separate bedroom. Recently, the industry’s definition of suite evolved. M&R’s first SpringHill Suites by Marriott is an example of that change. Marriott International calls the SpringHill room a “spacious studio suite,” larger than usual single room, with distinct areas for sleeping, relaxing and working.
Some associates leave their jobs after a few years for a variety of reasons: They relocate, return to school and change careers. Others serve for many years, also for a range of reasons: They like the work, build relationships that they value over the years and continue to grow and find new challenges.

It has long been M&R’s policy to promote qualified associates from within the company’s ranks as a way of benefitting from their knowledge and experience while enabling them to continue building careers in hospitality. Ninfa Lemache-Lopes is a perfect recent example.
December was particularly busy at M&R’s hotels this year. Associates decorated front desks, lobbies and other public spaces and looked forward to holiday staff luncheons. M&R Team News thanks its correspondents from around the company for sending the following photos.
