In celebration of Women's History Month – a national observance each March that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society – M&R Team News asked the company’s 10 female general managers to comment on their experience at the company and opportunities for growth.
Kristen Prablek has been named general manager of the Fairfield St. Louis Collinsville IL. She joins M&R from the Courtyard St. Louis St. Peters in Missouri, where she was assistant general manager.

Following a late-January visit, a guest traveling with his family to New York City for Broadway Week, found a lot to like at the TownePlace Suites New York Manhattan/Times Square. Writing a review on TripAdvisor, he first praised Santa Marrero, guest service agent, “for the smooth check-in.” Next, he noted the “guest room was super clean, the bathroom spotless as was the room’s kitchen. The breakfast buffet was stocked and fresh.” As for location, “we were able to walk everywhere.” And last but not least… “Will Stay Again, 100%.”
In its search for qualified job candidates, the People & Culture team has built relationships with local colleges that feature hospitality programs. Some of their most promising students are selected to serve as interns at an M&R hotel. High performers are then offered an opportunity to become a full-time associate at M&R.
With spring approaching, general managers are very conscious of “curb appeal,” making sure the exterior of their hotels is as attractive as possible. They are aware that guests’ first impression of the hotel will be important and want it to be as positive as possible.
Cleo Clarke, M&R vice president of people & culture, recently convened a meeting of general managers to welcome Peter Nichols, a hospitality industry veteran, as the company’s newly appointed vice president of development.
