Bar 58 is Floored by its Own Success

Since M&R’s Fairfield by Marriott New York Manhattan/Central Park opened in 2016, its lobby bar, Bar 58, has grown in popularity, both among hotel guests and neighborhood residents, who often socialize there.

Turns out the adage, “You can be too successful for your own good,” proved true. After six years, the bar’s tile flooring was cracking and in need of replacement. A new wood floor was installed over 10 days this winter by Chief Engineer Andy Persaud and Line Engineer Erik Melendez.

Replacing the floor is just one example of the ongoing program of repairs and upgrades M&R undertakes to ensure that the hotels in its portfolio remain in first-rate condition.

Bar 58, which serves small plates of bar food and specializes in seasonal cocktails, is named for the hotel’s location on 58th Street on Manhattan’s West Side. Three M&R associates -- an operations manager and two bartenders — are in charge.

The hotel’s next upgrade will be new lobby furniture, according to General Manager Yan Chung.
