Looking at the Family Side of Employees
Calvin McBurrows oversees the management of all payroll-related issues and employee finance activities. With meticulous attention to detail, he processes employee checks and benefits and ensures everything runs smoothly and accurately.
Calvin, who just celebrated his five-year anniversary with the M&R, expressed enthusiasm for new benefits and programs introduced over the last year.
“M&R takes pride in being able to provide associates and their families with a wide range of competitive employee benefits,” he said. “I am most excited about the company’s Employee Assistance Program, which is accessible at no cost to employees and family members. It is a big part of the people-centered culture we are prioritizing, and I highly encourage employees to take advantage of it.”
The program offers self-help tools to address everyday issues, including mental health, legal issues, financial planning, work-life balance, wellness, dependent care and education planning.
“We are looking more at the family side of the employee and not just the work aspect,” he said. “To be a great employer, we must look at the whole person, and that involves caring about the employee’s family and work-life balance. I really think this is one of the biggest initiatives in this past year that encompasses the people and culture mission. As a family man and father of two daughters, this is one of the things I appreciate most about the company – it’s about families.
“We want employees to be happy, to be able to provide for their families and to take care of their families by spending time with them. And if everyone is happy, you are going to get more productivity and better retention.”
