M&R Hotels Host School Groups from Around the World
Each year, M&R managed hotels play host to a variety of school groups, mostly at the high school level. Some are sports teams visiting the destination to participate in a competition while others are reward trips for students who achieved their academic goals.
“The young people tend to be well behaved and, given their eagerness to learn and explore, are a pleasure to host,” said Yan Chung, general manager of the Fairfield New York Manhattan/Central Park. School groups are a regular part of her hotel’s business mix.
School groups come from all over the world. A group from the Dene Magna School in Mitcheldean, England, this fall occupied 24 rooms, two students to a room, plus five chaperones, for three nights. After the students returned home, they sent a note expressing appreciation for the hospitality.
“In a way, these groups are ideal guests,” Yan said. They’re up early, eat breakfast and then are out of the building the entire day, seeing the sights.” The only downside, if Yan could call it that, is that young people bring healthy appetites and “keep the breakfast room attendants on their toes.”
