Housekeepers' Week has been celebrated in the U.S. for 41 years. This year it was Sept. 11-17.
M&R values its housekeepers and breakfast attendants as “the heart of the house,” whether they are employed directly by M&R or work on a contract basis as employees of an outside agency.
Labor economists consider housekeeping an “integral profession,” meaning hotels and other businesses cannot function without these services. Making up a guest room to the highest brand standards or keeping a complimentary breakfast buffet well stocked takes speed, attention to detail and just plain hard work.
“TripAdvisor and other review sites tell us that a clean, well-maintained, comfortable room is one of our guests’ highest priorities,” said Cleo Clarke, M&R vice president of human resources. “Through their hard work, our housekeepers help us deliver a consistently excellent guest experience.”
Housekeepers' Week this year took on a variety of forms at M&R hotels. Whether the event was marked by a sit-down lunch, a pizza-and-ice-cream social (with the dessert delivered via an ice cream truck parked outside the hotel’s front door), or the awarding of gift cards, the message was the same: “Thank you for a job well done.”
