Spotlight on the Tarrytown House Estate

The 214-room Tarrytown House Estate, an upscale, full-service resort and conference center 30 miles north of New York City in the picturesque suburb of Tarrytown, New York, is an outlier among the nationally branded, select-service hotels in the M&R Hotel Management portfolio.

Featuring 10 suites in addition to the 214 guest rooms, this historic Westchester County resort hotel was built in 1840 in what came to be known as the King Mansion. It later was combined with a neighboring mansion, now known as the Biddle Mansion. The property continued to be enlarged over the decades and today features extensive meeting facilities, including a 5,500-square foot ballroom, numerous meeting and breakout rooms and an all-day break station. Many consider it to be the country’s first dedicated conference center.

Tarrytown House Estate’s resort amenities include indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, a fitness center, room service and valet parking. With its sweeping views of the Hudson River and sprawling lawns, the hotel also specializes in hosting weddings, charity balls and other social events.

A multimillion-dollar upgrade was completed three years ago. The property’s gourmet restaurant, Goosefeather, was added, while guest rooms and other public spaces were refurbished, adding modern touches while retaining the property’s historic antecedents.

Goosefeather, which also includes a lounge and bar, has proven popular with local residents as well as hotel guests. Breakfast is served daily in the Biddle Mansion.

General manager Mark Shuda leads the on-site team of associates. M&R began managing the property in February 2022. He praises team members for their commitment to providing guests with first-class service and their respect for the King and Biddle mansions’ historic roots.

With the Hudson River a mile away, vacationers are in easy driving distance to such local attractions as Kykuit, the Rockefeller family retreat; Lyndhurst Mansion, former home of financier Jay Gould; and Philipsburg Manor, a restored Dutch outpost from the Colonial era.

In an effort to give M&R associates greater insight into their company’s portfolio, each issue of M&R Team News will shine a spotlight on a hotel that represents a different industry segment.
